chaise discount lounger as Jumbo luxury takes to the skies

he closest kept secret in the aviation business has been revealed with the handover of the first Airbus A380 to Singapore Airlines. No, it was not the livery or engines but the design of the new first class cabin suites, a first for a commercial airliner.Even an airline inspection crew, on the eve of the handover ceremony, was ordered to leave their mobile phones behind for fear some pictures would emerge before the secret was officially unveiled. The news is that the 12 cabins have sliding doors and roller blinds for privacy and full sized beds with separate leather armchairs and a chaise lounge.A 23in LCD screen also serves as an office computer, thanks to software embedded in the Panasonic s latest eX2 in-flight entertainment system, which offers 1000 on-demand options.Designed by luxury French yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste, the cabins have Givenchy pyjamas, bedding and duvets, hand-stitched upholstery by Italy s Poltrona Frau and, for two adjoining cabins, a double bed. The toiletries are by Ferragamo. For this, first class passengers will pay an extra 20-25 percent, Singapore Airlines Chew Choon Seng said.Business class passengers haven t missed out. They have the widest seats in any aircraft, a whopping 34in wide that can easily fit two petite cabin staff The seats also become large flat beds. The 60 seats are all on the top deck in a 1-2-1 four abreast configuration that gives each seat access to the aisle.Immediately behind the business class section is the pick of the four economy sections, mainly because of the legroom and extra storage space.

Got to work en route? The Singapore Airlines Suite converts into an office. There’s a wide table for papers and laptop, and each suite has a chaise lounge so you can meet with colleagues. There’s lots of stowage space for stuff, and even a private coat closet. .
