It's easy to imagine Rita Hayworth or another 1940s movie star walking under it in the foyer of a fancy hotel.
Herzlinger took Venetian plaster walls to new heights by having the cream-colored finish applied over alligator scrim panels to create a distinct texture and rich look. The panels were attached to the walls.
Draperies, done in contrasting textures of dressy quilted duchess satin (the fabric used for wedding dresses) and casual linen, are 2 feet longer than the walls; they puddle decadently on the floor.
The back wall is a telescoping pocket door that slides into the side, opening up the bedroom to the outside and creating a dreamy indoor-outdoor feel. A matching chaise and chair, covered in soft cream-colored velvet and also from Donghia, rest invitingly. They are the perfect place to relax with a book.
'I'm an avid reader,' Herzlinger said. 'I can really get into a book in this bedroom.'
Instead of night tables, a custom desk and a chest, designed by Herzlinger, decorate each side of the bed.
